15 brokers fined for overcharging

Fifteen brokerage firms including Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers are to pay over $21.5m (€16.7m) to settle allegations that they overcharged investors who bought mutual funds.

An investigation by US regulators found that the brokerages did not always reduce commission charges for mutual fund sales over a certain value-threshold, or breakpoint, above which discounts apply.
