Abramovich quits as Russia governor

Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire, has quit as governor of the far eastern region of Chukotka, Russia, a role which he had taken on as part of a deal with former President Putin.

The owner of Chelsea football club was elected as governor in 2000 as part of a contract with Putin to take on some civic responsibility after earning millions in the commodities boom of the 1990s, according to Reuters.
