Accountants confused over standards for derivatives

European Commission's compromise on rules has made for difficulties

The attempt by the European Commission to forge a compromise on the highly-charged issue of accounting for derivatives has left international accounting standards more muddled than before.

Robin Jarvis, head of small business at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the professional body, said: "The preparers of accounts are going crazy."
