African ECM has $1bn week

African companies have raised more than $1bn (€648m) from initial public offerings this week as international investors seek greater long-term exposure to frontier markets despite the short-term risks.

Zambian mobile telecoms company Celtel raised $199m by selling a 20% stake and began trading on the Lusaka Stock Exchange yesterday. Demand for the initial public offering outstripped supply by three times.
