AIG's Greenberg was paid $8m bonus

Maurice Greenberg, the former chief executive and chairman of American International Group, the troubled insurer, was awarded an $8m (€6.6m) bonus last year, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the US regulator.

AIG's compensation committee set the bonus before an internal investigation revealed a series of accounting errors that reduced its true market capitalisation by $2.7bn, the company said in the proxy filing with the SEC.
