When the call came through from Jamie Dimon in February, Filippo Gori was on a business trip to Melbourne, Australia. The then-CEO of JPMorgan’s Asia business had an inkling that a bigger job was on the horizon, but the timing was not ideal.

“Did I know this job was going to come up for me? The answer is no, but I was aware that I was being considered for different roles, possibly outside Asia,” says Gori, who was promoted to chief executive of JPMorgan’s Emea business and co-head of global banking.
