Anglo Irish surprises with €400m placement

Anglo Irish Bank completed a surprise capital increase yesterday, raising about €416m ($503.8m) in the third-largest share placement ever by an Irish Stock Exchange-listed company.

Davy Stockbrokers led the sale of 33.6 million Anglo Irish Bank shares, equal to 5% of the bank's share capital, the maximum number of shares the firm can sell without having to offer pre-emption rights to its shareholders.
