Archipelago chief to get $4m windfall

Gerald Putnam, chief executive of Archipelago, the electronic securities market being acquired by the New York Stock Exchange, is set to get a $4m (€3.1m) windfall if the merger takes place.

Putnam originally was to get the money only if he left Archipelago. However, following a modification to the Securities and Exchange Commission filing last week, he may now collect the payment without having to quit or be fired.
