The UK hedge fund industry beat expectations for the fifth year running by raising almost £27m (€39m) for the children's charity Absolute Return for Kids, 50% more than last year and two and half times the amount raised the year before.

The amount, collected last week at a fundraising dinner with 1,200 guests, is comparable with the annual donations to one the UK's 50 largest charities.
