The Bank of England has tested how blockchain technology can be used for payments settlement, as financial regulators around the world intensify their fintech efforts.

A team of blockchain specialists at the UK central bank, in conjunction with distributed ledger experts at the consultancy PwC, have conducted a proof of concept to examine how the technology could be used in the Bank of England's core activities, including its real-time settlement systems.
