Lender picks chairman of retail chain Debenhams to head the board of Barclays UK

Barclays has named a chairman of its ring-fenced bank in the UK, which will house its less risky retail operations from 2019.

The bank said in a statement that Sir Ian Cheshire, the chairman of Debenhams since 2016, has been appointed as a non-executive director of the bank and chairman designate of Barclays UK.
