Bear Stearns buys gourmet food chain

Bear Stearns' private equity arm has made its second purchase in three days, investing $50m (€41m) in a chain of US gourmet food stores.

Bear Stearns Merchant Banking has bought the Sutton Place group, which owns and operates 11 upper-end foods stores including Balducci's, the famous New York City food store.
