Bear Stearns strikes deal with Bulgari-backed Opera

Bear Stearns' merchant banking unit has rescued an 18-month fundraising effort by Opera, an Italian mid-market private equity house backed by the Bulgari family. It has agreed to allocate up to €200m ($241m) alongside Opera's second fund.

Opera started fundraising for €250m at the beginning of last year and recently announced that it had secured only €90m for its first closing.
