Liquidity-starved bond investors are pouring money into fixed income exchange-traded funds, fuelling competition between broker dealers as they ramp up their market making businesses in the asset class.

Institutional investors in the US poured $15 billion into fixed income ETFs in the first quarter this year, a 15% increase from the same period in 2014, according to a study by research firm Tabb Group published on Wednesday.
