Calyon powers to first-half record

Net profits at Calyon, the corporate and investment banking arm of Crédit Agricole, surged by more than half to a record €923m ($1.2bn) in the first half of 2006 on the back of stronger capital markets and advisory business.

René Carron, chairman of Crédit Agricole, described the investment banking arm's first-half performance as "remarkable", as he announced the results today.
