Candover is understood to have beaten buyout peer Texas Pacific Group in the €1bn ($1.3bn) auction of Swedish bed maker Hilding Anders.

The JP Morgan-advised victory was sealed in the early hours of the morning and gives the Bahrain-based investment company Investcorp a "large return", according to sources close to the deal.
