Carlyle Group raises $2.3bn for latest Japan fund

Firm names Takaomi Tomioka and Hiryoku Otsuka as deputy heads of its Japan buyout advisory team

The Carlyle Group has raised ¥258bn ($2.3bn) for its fourth Japanese buyout fund, more than doubling the size of its predecessor, which raised approximately $1bn in 2015.

Carlyle Japan Partners IV will invest in upper mid-market companies across the consumer, retail and healthcare, general industries and technology, media and telecom sectors. It will also pursue large-cap investments on an opportunistic basis, the firm said.
