Cheyne eyes commodities trade finance foray

Hedge fund is considering potential move into trade financing for commodities, while Markham Rae is targeting a similar strategy

London hedge fund Cheyne Capital Management is considering a move into trade financing, aiming to step into a void left by large European banks that have retreated from the space in recent years.

The firm is mooting a potential fund in trade financing for non-perishable commodities and commodities that trade in small to mid-size lots, according to Stuart Fiertz, who is co-founder, president and director of research at the firm.
