China bans fundraising via cryptocurrencies

Chinese authorities have banned a type of fundraising using cryptocurrencies, dealing a blow to startups and businesses opting to use the relatively new method of raising capital, writes Chao Deng for The Wall Street Journal.

A range of regulators, including China’s central bank, said today that so-called initial coin offerings were now illegal and ordered fundraising activities to “cease immediately”.
