Citigroup pays $2bn in Enron lawsuit

Citigroup today agreed to pay $2bn (€1.65bn) over claims by shareholders of Enron that it helped the energy trading firm commit fraud. The class-action settlement is one of the largest in corporate history.

Citigroup, which was accused of letting Enron hide billions of dollars in debt in off-the-books partnerships, said the payment would come from legal reserves set aside last year. It confirmed the settlement in a statement this afternoon.
