Commodities boost US securities

Full-year profits for the US securities industry are expected to hit $21.2bn (€17.6bn) this year on the back of soaring revenues in commodities-related businesses following the oil price spike that followed Hurricane Katrina.

Latest predictions from the Securities Industry Association, the US trade body, said revenues from commodities would reach $3.2bn for the industry as a whole this year – more than double the figure for last year.
