Manager of giant £9.7 billion index-tracking fund moves upstairs to become non-exec director

BlackRock's head of index funds portfolio management in Europe has stepped back from her frontline investment role, moving upstairs to become a non-executive director.

Eleanor de Freitas, who is head of BlackRock’s beta strategies portfolio management group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, took a position on the UK board of the the $5.1 trillion investment house in late December.
