Derivatives body proposes OTC rule change

US futures regulator the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has moved ahead with its planned reform of the US over-the-counter derivatives market by proposing a rule change that should help protect customers in the event of a default.

The CFTC yesterday outlined a plan that would require derivatives dealers to create a separate account for customers' OTC derivatives, a change the regulator claimed "would permit the extension of certain protections in bankruptcy" to customers.
