Deutsche Bank has missed a self-imposed target for promoting more women into the senior ranks, as large banks face pressure to close the gender pay gap amid broader diversity goals.

The German lender set a voluntary goal in 2019 to ensure that at least 21% of its managing directors — the highest rank at most banks below the executive suite — were women. At that time, 18.9% of its managing directors were female.
