Embattled Mirant seeks third bankruptcy extension

Mirant, the beleaguered energy trading group, has asked for more time to file a rescue plan for its business. It is the third extension plea the company has issued since it went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year.

The group filed a request to the US bankruptcy court on Monday to extend its exclusivity period for a further 90 days over the present deadline of December 31.
