Employee suspended as Caisse d'Epargne quits prop trading on €600m loss

French mutual bank Groupe Caisse d'Epargne today suspended its head of finance and shut its proprietary trading business after suffering a €600m ($807m) loss from equity derivatives trading last week.

A spokeswoman for the bank said this afternoon that the losses were caused by "half a dozen traders", who are no longer employees of the bank following its decision to cease prop trading in the wake of the loss.
