EU derivatives market grows by 11% to €735tn

Report underlines leading position of the City of London in Europe, despite Brexit uncertainty

The European Union’s derivatives markets jumped by 11% to surpass the €700tn mark over the course of the year, driven by increases in interest rate and equity contracts.

The total notional size of the EU’s derivatives markets grew to €735tn by the fourth quarter of 2018, according to the European Securities and Markets Authority, up from €665tn in the first quarter.
