EU economists call for ban on share buybacks

Finnov, a €1.49m European Commission-funded three-year research project, has said share buybacks should be banned

A European Commission-backed group of economists has called for an outright ban on corporate stock buybacks in a new report published this week.

Finnov, a research collaboration between seven European academic institutions including the UK's University of Cambridge, said share buybacks should be subject to stronger governance control or banned outright.
