European ABS market extends lead over US

The market for asset-backed securities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) was more than three times larger than its US equivalent in 2001, a giant leap from being 50% larger in 2000.

ABS issuance in EMEA totalled $111bn (€126bn) , according to preliminary figures from Dealogic, the data provider. US issuance totalled $32bn. In 2000 there was $47bn of supply in the US market compared to $66bn in EMEA.
