European banking watchdog unveils plan to stamp out dividend arbitrage schemes

The estimated cost to European tax-payers of so-called cum-ex trades is €55.2bn

The European Banking Authority, the banking regulator, has published the findings of an 18-month inquiry into dividend arbitrage trading schemes.

National authorities lack a common understanding of these schemes because of differences in local tax laws, said the watchdog.
