European Commission steps up fight against golden shares

The European Commission is opening three new cases against Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands for their use of golden shares to discourage takeover bids, signalling the start of a tough new stance to stamp out abuse.

Jonathan Todd, commission internal market spokesman, said: "This demonstrates the commission is taking golden shares and similar arrangements very seriously."
