European investment funds fall in value by 6.2%

Total assets managed by investment funds in Europe fell by 6.2% to €4.3 trillion ($4.7 trillion) during 2002, according to data from the trade organisation Fédération Européenne des Fonds et Sociétés d'Investissement.

The decline was triggered by the slump in the equity market, but funds regained some lost ground through increased sales of bonds, money markets and real estate.
