Evidence mounts of growing US pension fund gap

Two new reports have highlighted the growing crises in US corporate pension plans showing how hundreds of US corporates face pension deficits for the first time in almost a decade.

S&P 500 companies have seen their pension fund surpluses wiped out by declining equity valuations, analysts at UBS Warburg have warned. Together, the 500 companies will see their obligations outweigh their assets for the first time since 1993.
