Naya Capital Management, a $1.15bn hedge fund set up by a former senior partner at TCI, has returned 18% to investors this year thanks to short bets including retailer Steinhoff International, whose share price has tanked.

Success in four of its major positions pushed Naya to the double-digit returns, according to disclosures to investors.
