Expect a second wave in the UK, warns WHO expert

The national reproduction rate — or R number — for the pandemic is now between 0.9 and 1.1 in the UK and in London

A World Health Organization expert has said a second wave of the coronavirus is about to hit the UK.

The comments, made by David Nabarro, the World Health Organisation’s special envoy for the global Covid-19 response, come as the country sees a rise in Covid-19 cases and Prime Minister Boris Johnson chairs a cabinet meeting. The UK recorded an average of just over 2,000 cases a day in the week leading up to 4 September and nearly 3,000 cases on 7 September, according to official government figures.
