Fannie Mae divided over fate of chief executive

Franklin Raines, chairman and chief executive of Fannie Mae could remain at the helm of the US mortgage finance group despite a Securities and Exchange Commission ruling that the company violated accounting regulations.

The SEC has ordered Fannie Mae to book $9bn (€6.7bn) in previously-unreported losses.
