Franklin Templeton builds alternatives business with Darby buy-out

Franklin Templeton Investments, a California-based fund manager, has reinforced its commitment to alternative investments with the acquisition of Darby Overseas Investments, a private equity and mezzanine fund of funds investor in emerging markets.

Franklin Templeton, which manages $287bn (€253bn) in funds, paid $76m in cash for Darby. It is already regarded as a large player in emerging markets investments.
