French private equity investment halved in 2003

Leveraged buy-outs have fallen out of favour in France as private equity players shifted their investments towards start-up funding and development capital.

Some €2.1bn ($2.6bn) was invested in buy-outs last year, down 64% from €5.9bn in 2002, according to Association Francaise des Investisseurs en Capital (Afic), the private equity profession's trade body.
