The most recent quarterly survey of business confidence prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Confederation of British Industry showed a sharp fall in fund managers' optimism.

The September report showed fund managers' confidence sliding by 67 percentage points, implying that a third of them had changed their minds from feeling optimistic to feeling pessimistic. Only securities traders suffered a larger fall in confidence.
