Buyside predicts ICB hit to bank dividends and profits

Fund managers believe the ICB's report will reduce the short-term return from financial stocks, but are hopeful the long-term consequences will benefit the industry

Fund managers have welcomed the long-term effects of the Independent Commission on Banking, but remain bearish in the short term as the UK banking industry faces tightening margins.

Jane Coffey, head of equities at Royal London Asset Management, said: "It reinforces my prejudices that [banking] is going to be an underperforming sector relative to other areas of the economy because it is going to be so heavily regulated.
