Billionaire envisions collaborative effort by universities to promote ‘personal autonomy’

George Soros, the billionaire hedge fund manager-turned-philanthropist, said he was committing $1bn to fund a loose network of universities around the world to help educate young people and promote “personal autonomy”.

Soros, 89 years old, used his annual dinner and speech at the World Economic Forum here to announce the initiative, calling it the most important one of his life.
