Gilbert battens down hatches

Martin Gilbert, chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, is battening down the hatches following controversy over Aberdeen's split-level investment trusts, which has dealt its reputation a lethal blow.

One marketer said: "I can't see recovery for the Aberdeen brand in anything less than five years." Although Aberdeen has a strong fixed income and property business, the fear is that its talented managers will be tempted to join rival firms with better prospects.
