Goldman Sachs - obsessed with alpha

Some years back, I was given a ski hat by an enthusiastic Goldman Sachs marketer from its asset management division. It was a strange present, with the unfortunate phrase “obsessed with alpha” sewn into it, plus the bank’s logo. I wore it once. And once was enough.

Like the hat, Goldman has confirmed its identity through a single-minded obsession with making money, no matter what market conditions it happens to be travelling through.
