Goldman secures sole adviser role on RBS acquisition

Royal Bank of Scotland has turned to Goldman Sachs as exclusive financial adviser on its $2.1bn (€2.46bn) acquisition of parts of Mellon Financial, at the expense of Merrill Lynch, one of RBS's other principal advisers.

One banker close to the deal said that Goldman will probably earn more from advising on the deal, than it could hope to earn from sharing the fees on the financing side.
