Google jumps 18% on first day's trading

Shares in Google, the internet search engine, rose 22% during the first day's trading before closing up 18% at $100.30 (€81). They were issued at $85.

Trading had been scheduled to start at midday but with 20 minutes to go before trading, two rogue trades at $135 and $140 jumped the gun forcing Nasdaq to issue a statement stating that the stock had not formally started trading.
