Grasso loses opening court battle

Richard Grasso, former chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, has lost his bid to have the lawsuit over his controversial $187.5m (€141.6m) pay packet tried in federal court rather than a state court.

The move is being considered as a setback to Grasso because prosecutor Eliot Spitzer, the New York state attorney general, tends to have the upper hand in the state court.
