Knight Capital's head of trading algorithms has left the company, marking the first senior-level departure since a trading error rocked the firm August 1.

Joseph Wald, a managing director at Knight and overseer of trading programs sold to institutions, "decided to leave the firm to pursue other opportunities," according to a Knight spokeswoman.
