Hedge funds are making bets on a collapse in the share price of Britain’s mid-sized companies at levels not seen in over two years.

Analysts said short positions against FTSE 250 companies had increased significantly in the last three weeks. Hedge funds take a short position in a stock as a bet that its share price will fall.
