Hedging currency pays off

UK pension funds that passively hedge currency exposure in their overseas investments have reduced long-term risk and improved annual returns by 0.5%.

James Binny, senior investment manager of the fixed-income team at Gartmore, says: "It may not seem much, but it adds up, and in this tough environment pension funds are looking to enhance their returns wherever they can."
