Aberdeen Asset Management has poached a five-strong US equities team, led by star manager Katherine Garrett-Cox, from Lloyds TSB's Hill Samuel Asset Management unit.

It had been expected that Garrett-Cox would leave after plans were unveiled in March that Lloyds was to merge Hill Samuel and newly acquired Scottish Widows Investment Management and relocate the majority of staff to Edinburgh from London.
